The first squadrons of Canadian Forces 4 Wing to be stationed on the new jet fighter airfield near Soellingen landed on Friday afternoon. The squadron consists of F/86 planes known as “Sabres”. The aircraft had crossed the Atlantic with stopovers in Iceland and Great Britain. Mostly in groups of four, the Canadian planes thundered over Rastatt and then swung around in elegant curves to land on the runway in Soellingen. Their smart fuselages and slanted wings glittered with a silvery sheen in the bright sunshine of a brilliantly cloudless sky. Les premières escadrilles des Forces canadiennes 4 Wing à être en garnison sur le nouveau terrain d'avions de combat près de Soellingen ont atterri vendredi après-midi. L'escadrille est composée d'appareils de type F/86, appelés «Sabres». Les avions ont traversé l'Atlantique en s'arrêtant en Iceland et en Grande-Bretagne. La plupart du temps en groupe de quatre, les avions canadiens ont grondé au-dessus de Rastatt, puis ont tourné en effectuant des courbes magnifiques pour enfin atterrir sur la piste de Soellingen. Leur fuselage argenté et de leurs ailes inclinées brillaient dans la lumière du soleil, dans un ciel dépourvu de nuages.
