The Centennial Club on Lahr airfield has been sold to the company called "Fotostudio Fittkau". They want to invest about 2.2 million German marks in this building complex and completely transform it (until now it has remained more-or-less the same as when the Canadian Forces left in 1994, and has been used to hold various special events). The plans are to keep the main hall but to demolish most of the other buildings around it. On the sunny side of the building, an area of 2800 sq.m. is to be left open to provide optimum light conditions for photography. Demolition and construction is due to begin soon because they want to open their business this summer. (Photos, we’ll report on transformation progress later).

The red highrise building beside the Schutter river in Schwarzwaldstrasse (not far from area 31) has been sold to a company from Bietigheim-Bissingen. The apartment building was built in 1973 so many renovations need to be carried out, which the previous owners (a local social housing association) was not capable of paying for. After refurbishing the tenants will be able to buy the apartments they live in, at advantageous rates, if they wish. (Photo) |
