Lahr's indoor swimming pool opened again today although the reason for the employees' health problems has not yet been found.

The man who robbed Lahr Sparkass has been caught because he tried to rob another bank in Hockenheim and was bravely tackled by one of the employees. He still had the complete booty from Lahr with him. He came from northern Germany and apparently financed his life of leisure in Thailand by regularly robbing local banks in the Black Forest area (he has confessed to at least 6 such crimes).
The Europa-Park has announced plans to build a second recreational park between Rust and Ringsheim where a new access road to Rust will finally be completed in the next couple of years. The new site is about 120 hectares in area is will also include opportunities for fun sports like skatebording and free climbing.

The Kehl customs office will be closed because there is no longer any need for it, due to the European Union.
Lahr city council is debating an application from the Lahr Airfield company to obtain a licence for a freight airport. The concept is to drop efforts to establish passenger flights in favour of Baden-Söllingen airport.

Lahr's Chrysanthemum Festival 2000 was officially opened. For the next three weeks over 800 chrysanthemum cascades and over 3000 chrysanthemum plants will turn the city of Lahr into a colourful sea of flowers.
