Trisha Cornforth, German news reporter for "Der Kanadier"
newspaper as well as for CFN/RFC radio and television,
from the end of 1978 to the end of May 1994

The original "Der Kanadier " was the weekly newspaper for
the Canadian Forces stationed in Europe. It was published in Lahr
in the Black Forest, Germany, from 1 July 1970 until 25 May 1994,
i.e. until just before Canadian Forces Base Lahr closed down
in mid-August 1994.

Planning an Internet shop for Lahr souvenirs

We are all volunteers, giving our time and money to create this website, and we will continue to provide ex-CFE people with free access to information on the Lahr region. However, Canadians have often asked us about the possibilities of obtaining Lahr souvenirs, so our webmaster Klaus has been busy looking into the practical, financial and legal aspects of setting up a small Internet shop to sell things like Lahr books, videos and perhaps other items that will remind people of their stay in this area.
The actual mailing costs via the German postal system are quite high but he will soon be ready to start up trial operations, so keep in touch if you are interested!

Summer break

Time flashes by so fast that summer and holidays are already here! I'll be with the Lahr-Belleville Friendship Flight from Lahr that will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the German-Canadian partnership between the two cities during the week 10-17 July, also as part of Belleville's famous "Waterfront Festival" on 13-14 July.
After that I'll travel to visit friends at various other places in Ontario. If anyone wants to set up a meeting where I can talk to interested people about the proposals for the planned Reuion 2004, please send me an e-mail before my departure on 10 July.

During July and August we will therefore have less opportunity to write articles and take photos, but we promise that our web activities will pick up again from September!

With kind regards, also on behalf of our other volunteers Gabrielle, Marie-Hélène, Ivan and Klaus (see Contacts),

Trisha Cornforth
