Trisha Cornforth was German news reporter for "Der Kanadier" newspaper as well as for CFN/RFC radio and television in Lahr, from the end of 1978 to the end of May 1994

The original "Der Kanadier " was the weekly newspaper for the Canadian Forces stationed in Europe. It was published in Lahr in the Black Forest, Germany, from 1 July 1970 until 25 May 1994, i.e. until just before Canadian Forces Base Lahr closed down in mid-August 1994. The former "Der Kanadier" office, located above Lahr's downtown Canadian Post Office, is now "Canada-Haus" to provide a Canadian meeting place and information centre.

Trisha has stayed in Lahr as a self-employed English teacher (VHS adult education classes and local companies) and as a translator (e.g. for Burda World of Fashion sewing magazines). She is president of the "Schwarzwald Tänzer" square dance club (founded in 1967), the Lahr German-Canadian Friendship Club (founded in 1971) and the Lahr Canada-Haus Association (which
was founded in 1994 when the Canadian Forces left).

Thanks for Lahr German-Canadian Reunion 1967-2007
A small but select number of Canadians attended our reunion at the end of October but
it was certainly worthwile as the event helped revive wonderful memories on both sides!
The visitors walked down memory lane yet also discovered that Lahr has become much more attractive, while the locals enjoyed some Canadian flair again for a short while.
It was also the opportunity to celebrate 35 years of town-twinning between Lahr and Belleville (Ontario), whose new mayor Neil Ellis visited Lahr for the first time.
We would like to thank both the city of Lahr and the Canadian Embassy in Berlin for
their support, especially for the Canadian Forces 40th anniversary reception held in the former Black Forest Officers' Mess (now Lahr University College) where, for a couple of hours, the German-Canadian atmosphere was almost like it had been in the old days ...

Lahr's chrysanthemums were mostly still in full bloom at the end of November when they were cleared away to make room for the Advent Market and Christmas decorations but the winter gales and the first greetings cards have already arrived from Canada, so it's time to wish you all the best for Christmas and the New Year.
